Group Sessions
Group Sessions
Our group sessions align with neuro-affirming practices. We embrace the uniqueness and strengths of all children and organise small groups to carefully support children and their families.
PEDAL holds a variety of groups regularly throughout the week including Playgroup, Music & Play, OT Gym and Playtime Sessions
Additional groups are run during the school holidays. Currently PEDAL staff have created a Speech, Educator and Occupational Therapy program with a focus on literacy for students in kindergarten and year one.
Below is a list of different group sessions that we currently run at PEDAL. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Music & Play
Small groups will run for approximately 45 minutes. Here are some of the goals we work on together:
· Respond to music through singing, percussion and movement.
· Support and extend verbal and non-verbal communication.
· Create opportunities to practice learning skills such as play, choice making, sharing space with others, greetings, waiting for a turn and participation.
· Support individual physical growth through actions and movement skills\exploring literacy through song and story.
PEDAL Play Group
PEDAL runs a supported playgroup with an early childhood teacher. Our team regularly drop in and you might find yourself in the sand pit with a speech pathologist or at the puzzles with an occupational therapist. PEDAL playgroup is an inclusive space where we create play experiences for children to explore at their own pace. PEDAL playgroup is also for parents and carers and we enjoy chatting together while sharing some morning tea in our lovely outdoor space.
Musical Waves/Hydrotherapy
Sessions will be run by a paediatric physiotherapist and an early childhood teacher. To attend, children must have a parent or carer able to come into the pool and support their child’s participation in the water. Goals include:
· To support interaction and inclusion as part of a group, including turn taking, shared attention and following directions.
· To show preferences and make clear choices through the choosing of songs from visuals.
· To support postural control and motor development.
· To enhance balance and strength.
· To introduce water safety skills.
· To increase whole body awareness in a sensory environment.
Sensory-Motor Gym
Gym group provides opportunities for children to practice gross motor skills and enjoy movement alongside other children. Activities include dancing, swinging, trampolining, climbing and crashing.
Key Word Sign
Learn some functional key word signs to use at home and throughout the day with your child to support language development. Run by a Key Word Sign presenter and speech pathologist.
Keep your eye out for other tailored groups that may be offered throughout the year.
